Government Medical College Ernakulam started in 2000; the medical college is situated in Kalamassery, Cochin, KERALA. It is a co-educational affiliated college with NMC and INC, making it provide quality health education for its students. The college admission has a student count of 537 and the faculty has a strength of 88 students with eight courses of four degree programmes in different medical and nursing disciplines. The programmes offered by the institute are: – MBBS, MD specializations, B.Sc Nursing, GNM, thus are designed to attract a variety of audience in a healthcare stream. Government Medical College Ernakulam has many amenities which makes the learning process as well as personal development of the students a remarkable experience. A spacious library to support patient care, healthcare professionals, biomedical and health information officers, and patients is indispensible. To address on further aspects of physical fitness including recreation the institution has a gym and sporting fields. The college also has its own hostels for the students of both genders making sure that the students are comfortable at college. The college has student health center which has first aid facilities to address the needs of the college community. For the facilitation of academic activities and incidentals the facilities include information technology equipment and a seminar and cultural programme hall. Courses offered at Government Medical College, Ernakulam include all medical and some nursing courses. The institute presently offers eight full time programmes comprising of under graduate, post graduate and diploma. The MBBS programme, the programme that this college is most famous for, has an intake capacity of 110 students and the B.Sc Nursing programme offers 60 students’ capacity. The college also offers several MD courses in disciplines of General Medicine, Microbiology, Paediatrics, Pathology and Psychiatry with a seates ranging between 2-3 per course. Moreover, GNM diploma programme takes 40 intakes of the students. Together, the college can accommodate 537 students for all the courses offered to help boost the health facilities human resource line up. Government Medical College, Ernakulam has well structured admission procedure and it only opens admissions for the students through merit. For the MBBS programme, the MCC and DGHS carry out the process which is based on the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET UG) .
