Government Ayurveda College, Kannur, which was begun in 1991, is one of the prestigious colleges offering education in Ayurveda in Kerala, India. It is an affiliated college in Pariyaram, Kannur. In fact, the college occupies a 35-acre piece of land. Currently the institute teaches 7 courses in 4 programmes of study and focuses on different aspects of the Ayurvedic system of medicine. The college-wise employee in faculties is 51 and aims to provide quality education in traditional Indian medicine. The institute has got the recognition from the Central Council for Indian Medicine (CCIM), which ensures that it provides quality education and training in Ayurveda and the research that goes on here. The Government Ayurveda College has adopted a number of amenities that are intended to improve learning and teaching among the students. The library, having an area of 2600 sq. ft., is located on the ground floor of A Block and has a seating capacity for 60 readers at a time. They have an impressive collection of books on Ayurveda, modern systems of medicine and general medicines through the software package ‘Book Magic’. The college has provided different hostels for male and female students, respectively. The boys' hostel has the capacity for 15 double rooms and accommodates 35 students in the mess, while the girls' hostel is a three-storeyed building and has 38 rooms and can accommodate 65 students in the mess. But all the facilities of the two hostels include computer rooms and recreational facilities. It also boasts departmental laboratories and a health centre with first-aid facilities, as well as well-equipped IT facilities to enhance students’ academic experience. The programmes offered at the Government Ayurveda College, Kannur, total 7 courses , all of which are on a full-time basis. Hence, it offers one undergraduate course from the BAMS list and six postgraduate ones – MD and MS programmes. These courses have an overall enrolment capacity of one hundred and thirteen students in the entire college. The annual BAMS course, which constitutes the basic Ayurvedic education, has the highest capacity of 75 seats. For the BAMS programme, NEET is conducted for admissions; for the BAMS admission tests, the NEET makes the appropriate schedules. The AIPGET score is used for admission to MD and MS courses and other postgraduate courses in the Ayush stream. These tests also make sure that the college takes only those students who have a good grounding in the basic sciences and who have the potential to take up Ayurveda. The college functions by the academic session and admission schedule prescribed by the affiliated regulating authorities for NEET, which is generally conducted in May, and AIAPGET, which takes place in July every year.
