Aklia College of Education for Women, Bathinda was set up in 2005 as affiliated college that prepares future educators. Situated at Goniana Mandi in Bathinda, Punjab, it is a women’s only college which occupies a very small area of 6.70 acres. The college is acknowledged by National Council for Teacher Education (NCTE) which lays emphasis on quality education. It caters for 341 students in total academic population and 22 in total faculty population; this college offers two courses only in education specialisation. The institute believed very much in women education which is depicted in its closely related training programmes for teachers. Aklia College of Education for Women has a good number of learning facilities which help to improve the results of students’ learning process. A spacious library stocked with books in excess of 13,850, consisting of general books, text books, encyclopedias, reference books, periodicals, 10 Journals, 5 Magasines and Newspapers in different languages. The school has a health centre where students get first aid services and its has an ambulance service that operates on twenty-four hours. As for the physical fitness, the students are provided with a gym, and sports facilities for indoor and outdoor types. The IT infrastructure also contains a functional computer laboratory with Internet connection. There are canteen and juice bar for hygienic food, and a auditorium for event and seminars. The college also provides transport services to neighbouring regions so as to enable students access means of transport. Aklia College of Education for Women teaches two full time courses relevant to education. The B.Ed programme currently has an intake capacity of 100 and the D.El.Ed programme is also offered. These two core programmes enable the college to ensure that students will receive close attention in teacher education, with the necessary preparations for a successful educational careers. The recruitment and admission in the Aklia College of Education for Women depends on the programme that the student wants to undertake. The admissions for the B.Ed course are made through the college Own admission process and the norms of Punjabi University, Patiala. The selection is made only based on merit of the entrance test. In the case of the D.El.Ed programme the process of admission is based on merit through mark obtained in the qualifying test/entrance test.
