VET College of Education, Tirunelveli which was set up in the year 2008 is one of the torch bearers of the teacher training college in the state of Tamil Nadu, India. This is a co-educational college located in a well-covered 5.1 acre land and the main reason behind it is to produce effective teachers. It is affiliated to a larger university thus has to meet the standard of a university in order to afford education to its learners. It has a approval from the National Council for Teacher Education (NCTE) which proves the colleges intension of holding quality teacher education programs. VET College of Education has a total population of 164 students and 31 members of staffs which give a proportional teaching ratio. The college has installed a variety of new age infrastructural structures that would be very beneficial to the students in their learning processes. A good library is a house of knowledge since students can be able to get almost all the materials that they need for learning. It has fully equipped laboratory which includes a computer laboratory to enhance practical session and research activities. Besides, an auditorium in campus is used mostly to host various academic activities, seminars and cultural activities. The college also pays much attention to the welfare of its students hence the provision of a canteen, a first aid station in the health facilities as well as exercise facilities for recreation. for their IT needs, VET College of Education has put in place two computer laboratories equipped with 145 computers, 3servers making it easy for the students to access computers for their learning needs. At the moment only the VET College of Education has one program and that is the Bachelor of Education program . This course with a duration of two years aims at providing the candidates with adequate preparation to teach in school. The B.El Edu program Colleges have an intake capacity of hundred students, which corresponds to the college’s policy of keeping the standard of the students in parallel to the number strength. This niche product enables the institution to effectively channel its energies and Corps and provide an elaborate training program for teachers. The student attainment of highly trained educators is evident in its curriculum structure ad practical training culture of the college. Admission to VET College of Education is on merit as propagated by the concerned state government, Union Territory administration and in coordination with the affiliated university. Based on the qualifying examination, it is possible that the qualification needed could not be other than a degree that the prospective student had to earn in the first place.
