Sharavathi Dental College and Hospital (SDCH) was started in 1992 in Shimoga, Karnataka. Located on an ample piece of ground of 18 acres, SDCH has been one of the leading institutions in dental education for more than three decades. Education quality is high as the college is recognised by the Dental Council of India (DCI) and the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC). At present, SDCH facilitates 251 students with a faculty of 171 to ensure that the institution provides a favourable ground to practice for dental students. The institute provides a complete curriculum for dental education and training, BDS, and various specialisation courses in the MDS. The BDS programme , which is the basis on which the dental education is built, has an intake capacity of one hundred seats. The SDCH college provides MDS courses in Prosthodontics and Crown and Bridge , Periodontology, Conservative Dentistry and Endodontics , Orthodontics and Dentofacial Orthopedics, and Pediatric and Preventive Dentistry. These courses attract a small number of students per batch, which varies from 2 to 3 students per course Being a public hospital, the management recognises that there must be some form of entry criteria that must be met before a candidate is considered for admission into the SDCH. For the BDS programme, the candidates need to have passed the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test ( NEET ). Likewise, for the MDS programmes, the aspirants have to write the NEET MDS examination.
