Institute of Psychiatry, Kolkata was established over 200 years ago in 1817. It started as the European Lunatic Asylum, Bhowanipore, a private asylum caring for European patients. After India gained independence, the hospital underwent significant transformations. The institute further expanded its educational offerings, becoming a full-fledged center for postgraduate psychiatric education and service. Institute of Psychiatry, Kolkata offers MSc Psychiatric Nursing , M.Phil (Psychiatric Social Work, Clinical Psychology) and Diploma in Psychiatric Nursing .
