Government Polytechnic commenced in the year 2008 at Belur in Karnataka, and this institution is one of the largest technical colleges. This is an affiliated college recognised by the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) and imparts education in different fields of engineering. Located on 5 acres of land, the institute currently admits a student capacity of 415 and has a faculty of twenty-two. At present, GP Belur comprises four diploma programmes and each of them is tailor-made with different branches of engineering. Government Polytechnic, Belur provides four full-time diploma courses, out of which the duration of every course is three years. Students find them suitable for the different branches of engineering, thus making them prepare for different career paths. The institute has a total approved intake of 240 students, and each course offered is taken with 60 students at most, such as Diploma in Mechanical engineering and Diploma in civil engineering .
