Government College of Physical Education, Bhubaneswar came into existence in 1957 is one of the leading institutions in the field of physical education in Odisha. This co-educational college is situated in Bhubaneswar near the AIIMS Hospital and is built over an area of 10 acres of land. Being an affiliated college, it work under the recognition of National Council for Teacher Education (NCTE) which standards the quality education. The institute teaches two specified subjects of physical education for a total of 282 students, that is catered by 8 faculty members. Since its main concern is the area of physical education, the college serves as the breeding ground for prospective sports educators and professionals. Government College of Physical Education has many facility that supplement the learning process of the students enrolled in this college. The campus has a separate hostel facility for boys and girls, which make them comfortable while they are there. Athletic facilities, as one will expect, offer the students an opportunity to rehearse in several sports activities. The college also has good Information Technology facilities and airy classrooms to support learning atmosphere. In terms of academic programmes, The Government College of Physical Education has two programmes in field of physical education. The institute provides two full-time courses: a Bachelor of Physical Education (B.P.Ed) and a Master of Physical Education (M.P.Ed) respectively. Ideally, both of these programmes should take a period of two years to accomplish. The B.P.Ed programme is offered at an approved intake capacity of one hundred (100) students while the M.P.Ed programme can take forty (40) students. The intention of many of these specialised courses is to generate competent professionals in the sphere of physical education with both theoretical and practical experience.
